Chinese Son Jian Ware Porcelain Tea Bowl. The porcelain potted with a shallow body, slight deep, thick, flaring rim with angled cavetto elevated the steep sides upward the close mouth rim, raised on ring foot base slight concave. Jian Kiln is a type of Chinese pottery originally made in Jian yang, Fujian province. The ware are simple shapes with a strong emphasis on subtle effects in the glazes. In the Song dynasty they achieved a high prestige, especially among Buddhist monks and in relation to tea-drinking. Though the ceramic body is light-colored, the wares, generally small cups for tea, bowls and vases, normally are glazed in dark colors, with special effects such as the hare's fur , oil-spot and partridge feather patterns caused randomly as excess iron in the glaze is forced out during firing.The underside unglazed, revealed the pale-creme ground revealed and dark greyish brown spotted firing marks and edge-cut foot rim.
