Description

French Second Empire dragoon helmet or Casque de Dragons, circa 1845, the body of the helmet of gilded copper, with a high crest meant to hold a black horsehair brush and tail, the bottom one third of the helmet covered in leopard skin, retaining the original chin chains and bosses, marked in two places.

Approximate dimensions: h. 12" with top plume and holder h.15", w.8", l. 9", horse tail extends for additional 15"

Condition

Missing the leather and padded liner, the leather strap holding the horse hair tail is detached with original screw still attached, some gentle dents occurring throughout on the upper half of the helmet, a couple sewing splits and missing hair
