New York: Gabriel Wells, 1922-1923. 35 vols., 8vo, full blue morocco elaborately gilt with red gilt morocco to insides of covers and red watered silk free endpapers, top edges gilt. The Definitive Edition, number 1 of 1,024 sets, with Twain's signature in Vol. I, on a blank and opposite a page signed by the editor, Albert Bigelow Paine, which states, 'This flyleaf was signed by Mark Twain in 1906 in anticipation of the present definitive edition of his works.' Two original manuscript pages from The Gilded Age are also bound in before the title page of Vol. I, plus a two-page autograph letter signed by Twain, dated October 8, 1902, with salutation 'Dear Bliss'.
