Between 1879 and 1929, Wedgwood produced a series of Calendar Tiles for their main U.S. Distributor James Mc Duffee & Stratton in Boston. These were meant to be given to McDuffee & Stratons clientele, much like paper calendars are used by businesses today. Each tile had an image of a scene in or around Boston on one side and a calendar for the year on the other. There were holes (1 or 2) at the top so that the tiles could be hung on the wall. Each tile measures 3 ¼” x 4 5/8” with a ¼” thickness. The later tiles were marked “Wedgwood Etruria England” on the bottom edge. This group of 3 tiles has nautical scenes: 1) 1911, U.S. Frigate “Constitution” (affectionately known as “Old Ironsides”) and the U.S. Battleship “Florida”; 2) 1912, Cunnard Line Dock (new) Boston; 3). 1913, Mystic Wharves, H & M R.R. Terminal, Boston. All 3 tiles are in fine to very fine condition: no crack, breaks or lines, at most some edge rubbing/nibbling. Definitely, a fun thing to collect and people try to assemble a complete set.
