Lot includes several copies of two books privately published by Henry M. Dawes concerning the Dawes, Gates and Bosworth family histories. Five hardcover 1914 copies of "Papers of Joanna Shipman Bosworth : being the diary of a carriage trip made in 1834 by Charles Shipman and his daughters, Joanna and Betsey, from Athens, Ohio, to Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington, and a family history" privately published by Henry M. Dawes, December 25, 1914, The Ryan and Hart Co. Printers, Chicago. Portraits in the book are reproduced after paintings by the artist Sala Bosworth, (1805-1890.) Also included, three copies of the 1926 volume entitled "Grandmother's Letters, Being for the most part selections from the letter of Betsey Shipman Gates to her daughter Betsey Gates Mills" Prepared by Mary Dawes Beach. Printed by Henry M. Dawes for the descendants of "Grandmother Gates", Christmas 1926. Henry Dawes (1877-1952) was a prominent American banker and business man, serving as a United States Comptroller of the Currency from 1923 to 1924. Ohio history as well as Bosworth / Dawes family history interest.
