Description
Framed wool needlework textile with three heraldic roses above a diamond with interlaced diagonals. According to a very old notation in ink on the back of the frame, the textile is "A piece of Oliver Cromwell's bed furniture from Chavenage House, Gloucestershire." As fans of the 2015 British series may know, the historic Chavenage House played the role of Trenwith, the Poldark family home, in the drama. Oliver Cromwell stayed in a suite at Chavenage in 1648, and this textile is believed to have come from the coverlet he used. Frame, approx. 16 1/4" x 11 1/4". Sight, approx. 10 1/2" x 6 3/4".
