Description
'Bureau Mazarin' knee hole desk with exuberant inlay decoration in bone and mother of pearl, in ebonized and natural wood, the decoration extending to the X-form stretchers and nearly all parts. Upper portion of desk has two side by side central small drawers flanked by two stacked drawers. Lower portion with wide central drawer with three stacked drawers on each side, the back of the knee hole with bowed door opening to storage compartment. Old red and white embossed label on underside of drawer for C. Lonati, Firenze. Four of the gilt bronze Renaissance style mask lock plates are missing. Minor surface losses to inlay, minor cracks and losses to veneer. Provenance: Deaccessioned by the Virginia Museum of History & Culture to benefit collections care, preservation and future acquisitions. Approx. 57" L x 22" D. x 42" H. #D11-4
