Second Edition.A nice example of one of the most attractive early books on Yosemite, this second edition contains the first appearance of any of John Muir's writings in a book (appearing anonymously). Since John Soule never visited California, there has been speculation that the photographs were taken by Carleton E. Watkins. This edition slightly expanded from the first edition of the preceding year with textual additions and including the addition of the 2 maps. Cowan p.333; Currey & Kruska 225; Farquhar 10c. Ink ownership inscription dated 1872.

Sunning to spine and edges, slight soiling and rubbing; occasional toning from inserted flora, tears to tissue guards; very good.
