Description
Northeastern Asia, Siberia or North America, Alaska, Pleistocene (Ice Age), ca. 400,000 to 10,000 years ago. A fossilized molar and tusk fragments from a woolly mammoth (Mammuthus primigenius), the tusk is mounted on a custom wood and brass display stand - perfect for a library or study. Mammoths are one of the most memorable examples of Ice Age megafauna that most people will instantly recognize; their tusks are a special part of any prehistoric and fossil collection! The tooth fragment is polished with blue-gray enamel that encloses the lighter brown dentine, this was the grinding surface for the grasses and vegetal material that they consumed. Size of tusk along curve: 25" L x 2.25" W (63.5 cm x 5.7 cm); 14.5" H (36.8 cm) on included custom stand.

Condition
Molar is a large fragment, the enamel is polished flat and smooth, and the surface are covered in a clear protective coating, pretty coloration to enamel. Tusk is a large fragment as shown with losses to wide end and splintering. Stable fissures throughout and small areas of repair with new material - a small stabilizing patch to fissure and on tip. Nice coloration through out and elegant display mounting.
