Description
Mahogany Slant-lid Desk, possibly Newport, Rhode Island, late 18th century. Top blind-dovetailed to sides and chamfered at front edge to conform with slant lid, which opens onto stepped interior with blocked column of two drawers, the larger top drawer front shell-carved, flanked by cockbead-molded dividers and four valanced compartments over long drawer, the bottom tier projecting below molded edge containing two long drawers, all over case with four graduated drawers and raised on carved bracket feet (repairs, refinished), 99cm wide, 55cm deep, 106cm high (39 1/2in wide, 22 1/4in deep, 42 1/2in high).
