Three Pewter Plates, Providence, Rhode Island, late 18th century. Assembled group of small plates includes two with early and late marks of Gershom Jones (1751-1809), together with a slightly smaller plate impressed with three marks of William Billings (1768-1813), 20cm wide, 12cm deep, 20cm high (8 1/4in wide, 5/8in deep, 8 1/4in high). Footnotes: Literature Carl Jacobs, Guide to American Pewter (New York: McBride Company, Inc., 1957), marks 33, 175, and 179. Note A similarly marked Jones plate is in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art (acc. 41.34.4); a plate with earlier 'IONES' mark at Winterthur Museum, Wilmington, Delaware (acc. 1953.0155.012).
