Description
1575 Quintilian ROME Institutio Oratoria Rhetoric Speeches Lyon Famed Gryphe
One of the earliest books on teaching public speaking!
Marcus Fabius Quintilianus, or Quintilian, was a 1st-century Roman scholar most remembered for his theoretical textbook, Institutio Oratoria. This work deals with the foundations and development of teaching orations and public speaking. Quintilians most important point was that speeches provided the message of the speaker being a good man and that there is a direct correlation between the quality of a speech and the quality of a mans character. This book was known to have significant influence on Martial, Seneca, Juvenal, and Saint Augustine, who all credited Quintilian with focusing their orations.
This 1575 edition of Quintilian was published by Antoine Gryphe in Lyon.
