Description
Ca. 600-400 BC.An ancient bronze phiale with a unique texture. The vessel can be characterised as a 'mesomphalic' phiale due to the circular knob in the centre. Two decorative bands feature lotus flowers and almond-shaped patterns. These bowls were used in ceremonies for pouring liquids as offerings or for symbolic purification. Size: L:55mm / W:90mm ; 430g Provenance: Private UK collection; formerly in the collection of Mr. R. Unger; previously with a London gallery; acquired in the 1980s on the UK art market.
