Description
Portrait of A Nobleman Oil on canvas Baroque movement Unsigned in the manner of Anthony Van Dyck (1599-1641) 44.5 x 34 inches (sight) 56 x 46 inches (frame) Overall good condition. Late 17th or 18th century, follower or Anthony Van Dyck, has been cut, sized and mounted to a new canvas for restoration and preservation likely in the second or third quarter of the 20th century. We do not believe this to be the hand of Van Dyck but this painting has similarities with works by English artist Mary Beale and John Riley as well as Flemish painter Lucas Franchoys the younger. Provenance: Sold as Van Dyck pre 1930 in Vienna to E. W. Edwards of Edwards Manufacturing Co. of Cincinnati Ohio.
