inscribed Sacred / to the memory / of / Thomas Cheever / Who was Born Feb. 7th 1776 / and Died March 6th / 1854.
18 x 21 1/2 inches.

Thomas Cheever (1776-1854) of Danvers, Massachusetts served as a private in the United States Army, continuing the legacy of his father, Sergeant Aaron Cheever (1740-1803). The elder Cheever served the Danvers company of minutemen, which was organized by Captain Israel Hutchinson in April 1775, and notably participated in the Battle of Menotomy.

Framed: 22 x 26 inches.
In overall good and stable condition. Light toning to sheet with few errant marks throughout. Illegible watermark to lower right corner, with creasing and handling dents. Small wrinkle with associated paint loss to grass along lower edge. Hinged to mat.
