Good New York Sterling Silver Tyg, Howard & Co., act. 1866-1937, with engraved presentation "PRESENTED TO THE/ RIGHT HONOURABLE JOSEPH BARONDESS/ BY MEYER COHEN/ JANUARY 30, 1920", footed baluster form with robust acanthus scrollwork, h. 12 7/8 in., wt. 57.85 troy ozs. Note: Joseph Barondess (b. Bar, Russian Empire, 1867, d. New York City 1928) was an American labor leader and political figure in New York City’s Lower East Side Jewish community in the late 19th/early 20th c. He was one of the founders of the American Jewish Congress and participated in their delegation to the Paris Peace Conference in 1919.
