America, 19th century. A document outlining deeds and legal matters concerning the original land purchases by John Cleves Symmes of the Miami Purchase. Names include William Lytle, William McMillan, and Jacob Burnet.
Judge Jacob Burnet (1770-1853) was one of Ohio's leading citizens during the late 1790s and early 1800s. He played a large role in converting Cincinnati from a frontier town into an important city. Burnet was appointed to the Territorial Council, the legislative assembly for the Northwest Territory in 1799-1802 and served in the Ohio State House from 1814 to 1816. During his Senate term, Burnet facilitated the construction of the Miami Canal from Dayton to Maumee.
Overall good condition; toning throughout and edgewear. Documents recured with a pink bow through top margin.
