Disbound. ******* First edition of this satirical farce which was considered obscene at the time. A review in the Poetical Register, by Giles Jacob, remarked that some of the scenes in the play "trespass on Female Modesty." Auction appearances are quite rare; RBH records the last auction appearance as 1987. ********** SOLD WITH: Willet, Edward. LETTERS ADDRESSED TO MRS. BELLAMY, OCCASIONED BY HER APOLOGY. London, [1785.] 12mo, disbound (loose sheets), scarce, complete. 75, [1] pp. SOLD WITH "The Chimes Quadrille, Composed for the Musical Bouquet, Most respectfully Inscribed to Charles Dickens, Esq." Published by J. Bingley and W. Strange, [ca. 1845-47.] 13.25" x 9.25". 2 pp., tipped to support sheet along left margin.
Condition
Half-title soiled and detached with tape, tape abrasions, and tape stains (also present to final page margin), some marginal chipping to half-title. The other two items overall Good, though the book is disbound and sheet are loose, and the sheet music is age-toned. Lot sold as-is.
