Description
Two Victorian Mother of Pearl and Gilt Bronze Bowls. The first, an ovular mother of pearl clam shell body, mounted in gilt brass with a tooled band to edge, surmounted by an opposed pair of doves, each perching on a grapevine with leaves and fruit, that conjoins the two side strands as a pedestal,terminating below the base, in a flat, low rounded rectangular base. The second, a smaller example, mounted in gilt brass with a tooled band to edge, resting on two gryphons' wings, the tail ends sticking out to opposing sides. Circa 1870 - 1880. {Approximate dimensions: 6 1/4" H. x 8 1/8" W. x 3 7/8" D. overall.}. Condition: Overall condition is good. The upper edges, doves tails, etc. with minor bent areas. The smaller example with 1 1/2" L. shallow crack to shell interior.
