Paestum (ancient Poseidonia), near Salerno in southern Italy, is noted for its three remarkably well-preserved Doric temples, which were enthusiastically visited by tourists in the 18th century. The temple shown here was built in the mid-5th Century BC, at roughly the same time as was the very similar temple of Zeus at Olympia, in Greece.
