Ancient Egypt, Third Intermediate to Late Dynastic Period, 21st to 31st Dynasty, ca. 1070 to 332 BCE. A hand-carved lapis lazuli amulet of rare near-miniature form depicting Thoth, the ibis-headed god of mathematics and time. Thoth presents in a striding pose atop an integral plinth while holding both arms to his sides and his aviform head raised and attentive. Size: 0.35" L x 0.22" W x 1.27" H (0.9 cm x 0.6 cm x 3.2 cm)
