Note: Donald Baechler championed the work of his studio assistant Taylor McKimens, buying works for his collection and displaying them in his studio for others to see. McKimens' subject matter here plays on the still life trope of a potted plant that Baechler also reimagined in his own work. Both artists painted 'wet on wet', relishing the looseness of the paint with this technique that allowed for drips and smears to become part of the composition.
