3.25X5.25 Vintage sepia photograph signed "Egas Moniz 1950" in black fountain pen ink in the lower margin. In mint condition.(1874-1955) Egas Moniz (was a Portuguese neurologist and the developer of cerebral angiography. He is regarded as one of the founders of modern psychosurgery, having developed the surgical procedure leucotomy—â€â€¹better known today as lobotomy—â€â€¹for which he became the first Portuguese national to receive a Nobel Prize in 1949 (shared with Walter Rudolf Hess).He held academic positions, wrote many medical articles and also served in several legislative and diplomatic posts in the Portuguese government. In 1911, he became professor of neurology in Lisbon until his retirement in 1944.This lot came from the Jim Wiggins collection we purchased in July 2022. Jim Wiggins accumulated the most unique and valuable autograph collection over a period of 70-plus years. He obtained his collection either in person or by writing to persons of fame and notoriety.
