  • Title: Important Patek Partner Czapek Enamel Repeater Pocket Watch Polish Prussian Treaty Scene
  • Description: Important Patek Partner Czapek Enamel Repeater Pocket Watch. Czapek continues to make extraordinary wrist watches to this day. Take a look at some of the incredibly complicated and unusual timepieces offered on the current marketplace. Largely unheralded in a very crowded space, Czapek is coveted by a large group of savvy and sophisticated collectors. They are arguably one of the finest watches available on the market today. Similarly, it can be argued that early Czapek pocket watches, while also not as well known as Patek are much more complicated, finely made and detail oriented than Pateks of the same era. And much more rare. Especially when it comes to movements. This VERY high grade ruby unusual jeweled lever escapment keeps good time to this day. And the 1/4 hour repeating mechanism works well. Patek often excelled in casework but this 18k case is unparalleled. A Treaty Between The Poles (viewed on the left)and some euorpeans (perhaps the Prussians) is what most suggest but some suggest Turks/Ottomans w/Spaniards. Speculation is the gentlemen on the left are wearing traditional 17th century Polish Kaftans w/ the gents on the left of the prince / king are holding bulawas a type of ceremonial mace that was and is used in Poland and Ukraine as a supreme symbol of authority rather like a marshal’s baton...as well as the Polish cermonial Axe) all Done in Fine Enamel. Fine ruby jeweled lever escapement made just two years before the split between Patek and Czapek. Owned by Polish/ Lithuanian nobleman, Elegius Kownackiego, ( Eligiusz Kownacki, the marshal of the Å iauliai district.) and his family coat of arms appears at the top of the cuvet. The coat of arms was awarded to the family in 1842. After a long struggle the noblemans ancestors participated in skirmishes with the Prussians, and we speculate this represents that interaction. Soon after being awarded the coat of arms (after a long court battle with The Poles and the Russian courts) it was awarded circa 1843) it was reported that in 1846, his manor was at the height of his prosperity and included a large area of land. The manor owned 130 peasant men, and 127 women as serfs. In 1845 a commission gave the family permission to use the coat of arms after proof of evidence of nobility. The historical importance of this watch is equal to the importance of the high grade movement made by one of the most important watchmakers of all time, the genius Czapek. Has proper hallmarks and there is no enamel loss.
