Illustrated with 5 engraved folding plates: 3 views showing a natural bridge and 2 maps by Dezoteux.
As an officer in the French Expeditionary Force led by Rochambeau during the American Revolution, Chastellux travelled in Virginia, Massachussets, New Hampshire and Pennsylvania.
He writes about the natural history of the country, historical places of the war, daily life of the inhabitants and about famous people, such as Thomas Jefferson and George Washington, a personal friend.
