Rare, impossible to find item! This is an amazing porcelain railroad crossing sign, in full color, from the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad. It has some rust and bullet holes on the face of the sign, but someone had the foresight to save this from a crossing in Minnesota. Made by the Western Enamel Steel Sign Company in Chicago, their name is on the lower right of the sign in small letters. The company existed from the early 1900s through the middle of the 20th century, which fits perfectly with the age of the sign, as it features the very early CNW ball and bar logo used by the railroad from the late 1890s through the 1920s. The sign is red porcelain with white letters, along with the red, green, and white CNW logo. The sign reads RAILROAD CROSSING, DANGER, STOP LOOK LISTEN. All five original mounting holes to mount it to the crossing sign post remain down the center of the sign. A must-have for the serious CNW collector!
