Includes six forks, five knives and a butter knife, all blades and fork tines in silver by George Adams, London 1848/1850/1851 and 1860, with heavy cast and chased figurative handles by either George Adams or the unknown maker 'SC', London 1848/1850 and 1851, with the butter knife handle by Richard Sibley, London 1860, all depicting three dimensional medievally dressed and mythical figures, possibly characters from a chess set, such as knights, a Bishop and a classical maiden, all engraved with the CURTIS family armorial, weight total 32oz. This is the crest of the CURTIS family, who in 1802 were created Baronets of Cullands Grove, Southgate, Middlesex. William CURTIS 1st Baronet was a wealthy biscuit manufacturer and Lord Mayor of London. In 1850 the holder of the title was Sir William CURTIS (1804-1870) 3rd Baronet the son of Sir William CURTIS (1782-1847) 2nd BT by Mary Ann LEAR (died 1865) daughter of George LEAR of Leytonstone. In 1831 the 3rd BT married Georgina Maria STRATTON (died 1892) daughter of John STRATTON of Farthinghoe Lodge Northants. The 3rd BT moved the family seat to Caynham Court, Shropshire in 1852.
