A Victorian silver travelling corkscrew
Henry William Dee, London 1867
Of tapering cylindrical form, with two equal halves, centrally unscrewing to reveal a fixed corkscrew, the exterior plain polished with an enamelled armorial for the GOOCH family, length 9.5cm.

These are the arms of Sir Edmund Sherlock GOOCH (1843-1872) 7th Baronet of Benacre Hall, an army Colonel. He was the son and heir of Sir Edward Sherlock GOOCH (1802-1852) 6th Baronet by his second wife, who he married in 1839, Harriet HOPE-VERE (1819-1883) daughter of James Joseph HOPE VERE (1785-1843), a Scottish landowner, by Lady Elizabeth HAY (1794-1868) daughter of George HAY 7th Marquess of Tweedale.
In 1866 the 7th Baronet married Ellen Emily HIRST (1846-1921) eldest daughter of Robert Augustus Hankey HIRST Esqr. of Down Grange, Basingstoke Hampshire. After the death of her husband, she was a resident of Hanover Square London.
