Beautiful Gold with Pearls Pendant Handpainted Watercolor Scene of a Maiden Freeing a Bird from its Cage
c. 1800 Federal Period Design, Decorative Woman's Gold Pendant with Ten Pearls and Hand-Painted central Watercolor Beautiful Maiden Freeing a Bird from its Cage Scene, Choice Extremely Fine.
Highly decorative Oval Woman's Pendant measures about 1.5" x 1.5" with a 14.5" long Gold suspension chain attached and shows only slight wear. There are no markings of its gold quality, maker, date or place. Its central Watercolor scene shows a lovely woman sitting on a large rock, holding a bird perched on her left hand, her right hand atop a large period design birdcage on the ground next to her, apparently freeing the bird by releasing it from its cage. A theme possibly related to her thoughts of "Woman's Liberation" and greater freedoms of the day. As added decoration and value the central pendant has a surround of Ten lovely Pearls, each attached with fine gold wire loops. This impressive Gold Pendant is complete and ready to wear or display. (One might wonder what a currently made example might cost to buy at Tiffany's today?) A desirable exceptional collectible of "real" value.
