Description
Rare Crawford Co. Signed James Newberry (1854-1927) Preserve Jar Circa 1898. Hands down this is one of the significant new discoveries in Crawford county stoneware. This canning/preserve jar is the only known example I have ever seen signed Newberry. Cagle Auction has proudly offered a single handful of Newberry signed examples in the past and they just don't often surface. This being a preserve jar with the "NEW" stamp makes this a highly significant piece. The jar had a striking paint rock glaze and strong legible stamp. I challenge anyone to find another. When it comes to condition, museum quality(mint with no chips, cracks, or repairs). This jar has worn a flea collar its entire life. This piece is a true fresh example and has never been offered for sale or even heard of until now. Found in a local estate. Standing 7 1/8" Tall.
