Description
East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty, Qianlong period, ca. 1736 to 1795 CE. A beautiful pair of porcelain jars, each enveloped in lustrous celadon glaze and carved with a scrolling peony motif. The broad frieze of floral design is flanked by undulating diagonal striations below and a ruyi band above, while the neck is encircled by a strip of cross-hatch pattern and meander motifs. Both vessels boast ovoid forms with rounded shoulders, attenuated necks, and rolled rims, all sitting upon ring-form feet. A Qianlong Dynasty mark can be seen on the underside of each base. Size of larger: 8.5" Diameter x 10" H (21.6 cm x 25.4 cm)
A similar celadon jar of a slightly larger sale sold by itself for $99,750 at Christie's New York as lot 1387 on September 20th, 2013 (Live Auction 2726 "Fine Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art).

Condition
Qianlong pottery mark on underside of both. Expected nicks and abrasions to surfaces with considerate wear to undersides of feet, all commensurate with age. Otherwise, intact and excellent with good preservation of decorative programs and encrustations and patina in areas.
