Description
Vladimir Nikolaevich Nemukhin, Russian, Soviet, 1925 to 2016, oil painting on canvas, Joker, depicting a composition with playing cards and fish, 1994. Signed, titled, and dated lower to the center. Framed. Provenance: Sergey Popov Galerie. Completed with an original paper label, dated August 4, 1998, and signed by Sergey Popov, stamped. Vladimir Nemukhin was a member of the Lianozov group, a representative of unofficial art, one of the classics of the second wave of the Russian avant grade. The artwork is from the artists famous cycle, Card Solitaires, begun in the 1960s. The composition of the picture is deliberately complicated, the plot unfolds as if in different spaces, the combination of which creates a mystical, supernatural atmosphere. Nemukhin combines real and drawn maps on the canvas, thus turning the surface of the canvas into a place of assembly of the real and the depicted. One of a kind artwork.
