Description
A well executed large Irish silver footed basket executed in a heavy repousse (Baltimore style). This basket features a gadroon border with three-dimensional shells encompassed by acanthus leafs, a collective of fruits atop a textured crescent scale field terminating in a scalloped edge, flanked on all sides with central scroll armed cartouche (2) blank and (2) engraved with chased scalloped shells, and an articulated handle with a gadroon border, central monogrammed scroll arm cartouche flanked on both sides by flowers amongst leaves. Stamped with a city mark of Dublin, a maker's most surely a maker's mark of Edward Crofton, and a date letter of 1818. the Total approx. weight of the basket is 47 troy oz (gross). From a Manhattan, NY estate. Dimensions: basket measures approx. 12.75" in diameter.
Condition
Good, with light surface scratches and minor dings/dents. Handle exhibits a monogram executed in cursive.
