Description
Very well carved and painted with a detailed scene of pigeons set in a landscape scene bordered by chilong dragons. Among the auspicious blooming flowers and plants are peony, wisteria, crab apple, lily, pine and others. The pigeons in various dynamic poses symbolize faith, constancy, and longevity. Colors of deep greens and browns to lighter shades of pastel on a brilliant gold leaf ground. Back of screen with cranes among water and rocks among blooms on a black lacquer background with a border of lotus meanders. The bottom of each back panel illustrates different archaic and scholarly items in gold leaf. Brass banded feet.
