Description
Pre-Columbian Colima Reclining Figure in Bed (ca. 300BC-300 CE). Size: 5 inches Length x 2.25 inches Wide. This could depict a funerary plinth, but some archaeologists believe these figures could represents shamans on a dream quest. Originally thought to be deathbeds of important figures, the more creative explanation is showing a shaman secured after ingesting hallucinogenic plants. Condition: Plenty of red pigment and ample mineral deposits. Chip on the bottom of the bed (underneath) and repair to one of the legs. Provenance: From the Dr. Abner Weisman estate (collected in the 1950s-60s). He was a doctor and author on fertility and “medical sculpture” (and famously, Marilyn Monroe's gynecologist). The Weisman Collection of Pre-Columbian artifacts was displayed internationally throughout Europe and Central America
