Description
First generation SAA manufactured in 1940 and later upgraded with exhibition engraving and grips. Patent dates, Colt pony and "VP" proofs are still present on the left side of the frame and trigger guard, respectively. Single line company address on top of the barrel. The caliber and model markings typically found on the left side of the barrel have been replaced with gold inlay western hunting scenes. A gold embellished antelope running from a mountain lion can be seen on the right side of the barrel. Mexican eagle on the ejector rod housing. Buffalo head embellished on the recoil shield. Grizzly bear on the loading gate. The frame has a group of hunters chasing a herd of Buffalo on the right and a Buffalo on the left. 5-1/2" barrel with blade front sight and u-notch frame rear. Six shot fluted cylinder. Blued finish under master floral scroll engraving. Gold inlay bands throughout as well. Heavily embellished brass grips with a cowboy on the right side and Indian on the left. An Indian chief appears on the bottom. Formerly of the Robert M. Lee collection and a must have for any serious Colt collection. CONDITION: Metal retains 98% of its blued and gold inlay finish. Grips have very light wear, with no real signs of polishing or cleaning. Bore is clean overall, with very good rifling. Tight hammer and cylinder. Crisp mechanics. No visible drag line.
