Description
Tashkent Suzani, Uzbekistan, Late 19th Century: This remarkable textile comprises four cotton panels, meticulously silk-embroidered using couching stitch and chain stitch variants, and then sewn together lengthwise. It measures 7'3'' x 5'9'' (221 x 175 cm) and is a stunning example of a Tashkent Suzani. The textile features twenty large circular designs, each embroidered in vibrant red with intricate dark green leafy patterns. Surrounding each circle are small fish-like figures that not only add to the overall visual appeal but also serve to divide the main ground into distinct sections.
