Pair of Indian Padukas (Sandals), Rajasthan, 19th C. Wooden elevated platforms inlaid with brass wire designs and a post and knob to secure the foot in place between the big and second toe. Size: 9.5'' x 3.25'' x 3'' (24 x 8 x 8 cm).Padukas come in a variety of shapes: most notably fish, hourglass and like feet. They are often intricately carved from ivory, precious woods, or inlaid with ivory or brass wire. Padukas are often part of a either the bride’s trousseau, ritual objects of veneration, or a holy offering from the faithful.
