Description
Palestinian Dress Yoke, 19th Century. This exquisite Palestinian Dress Yoke, dating back to the 19th century, is a captivating example of the intricate artistry and cultural significance of traditional Palestinian attire. Measuring 16'' x 13'' (41 x 33 cm), the yoke is the focal point of the Palestinian dress and is often detachable, making it a versatile and striking piece of textile art. The yoke is skillfully crafted from selvedge-to-selvedge white linen, which provides a pristine canvas for the embroidery. The embroidery itself is a work of art, executed in lustrous red with delicate black details. The intricate cross-stitch technique is used to create motifs that bear a resemblance to European designs. Interestingly, it is believed that these motifs were influenced by Eastern European designs introduced to Palestine by Jewish settlers during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
