All proceeds from this collection will be contributed to PfDD’s permanent endowment, helping us further our vision to nurture, elevate, and protect Downtown Dallas neighborhood parks. Established in 2015, PfDD partnered with the Dallas Park and Recreation Department to construct four new “Priority Parks” recommended in the 2013 Downtown Parks Master Plan. Pacific Plaza was completed in October of 2019; West End Square in March of 2021; Carpenter Park in May of 2022; and Harwood Park is scheduled to open in Fall of 2023. Before concentrating exclusively on public green spaces PfDD was known as The Belo Foundation, the companion philanthropic foundation of Belo, parent company to The Dallas Morning News. The works shown here originate from the former corporate art collection owned by Belo and acquired under the stewardship of Judith Segura, beginning in 1986. Highlights include pieces with special ties to The News and its history; a rare painting by Julius Stockfleth depicts the ship on which George Bannerman Dealey’s family immigrated to Galveston from England in 1870. A mural study by Dallas Nine artist Perry Nichols was made for his monumental mural, commissioned in 1948, for the lobby of the iconic building George Dahl designed for The News. Not only does this collection represent a rare opportunity to acquire works tied to local journalism history, it also will raise much-needed funds for an important, environmentally-friendly cause.
