Jon Zahourek (American, b. 1940). "Lovers I" limited edition lithograph, 1977. Hand signed, numbered 6 of 50, and dated in pencil. A striking composition by Jon Zahourek depicting a man and a woman engaged in an erotic union with their lower bodies intimately intertwined and their upper bodies dramatically arched back as they raise their heads to gaze upon one another. All is delineated in vibrant shades of golden yellow, sunkist orange, and fiery red - a color palette that sharply contrasts with the white paper. In the 1960s, Jon Zahourek dropped out of college to become an artist. By way of Taos, New Mexico and later Denver, Colorado Zahourek was part of a thriving community of artists, exhibiting his work with prominent contemporaries including Ned Jacobs, Buffalo Kaplinski, George Carlson, and Fritz White. In the 1970s, Zahourek moved to New York to teach painting. He continued as an artist and educator, and eventually fueled his passion for anatomy into developing a system for teaching anatomy which has been used by more than 6,000 classrooms across the United States.
Provenance: ex-private Bishop Family Trust collection, the Trust of the late Bill Bishop, a noted antiquarian with shops in Scottsdale, Arizona and Allenspark, Colorado, USA, acquired before 2010
