Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 4th century CE. A gathering of 59.5% gold foil fragments that perhaps once bore elaborate decorations in repousse. The extremely delicate nature of ancient gold foil means that most examples do not survive the test of time, though some do still remain to this day. Size of largest piece: 3.875" L x 1.5" W (9.8 cm x 3.8 cm); gold quality: 59.5% (equivalent to 14K+); total weight: 2.6 grams
Provenance: East Coast collection, New York Gallery, New York City, New York, USA, acquired before 2010

Condition
All are fragments of a larger foil sheet and are creased, torn, frayed, and covered in light earthen deposits, all commensurate with age and fragility. Nice luster still remains.
