Description

Western Greek 2nd half of 6th cent. B.C. Terracotta.
H. 10 13/64 in; 25.9 cm
A statuette of a kore of typically archaic shape. She wears a peplos that reveals her feet. The left arm hangs down close to her body. The right arm is angled and the hand which is placed before her chest may have held an object. Long curls cascade over her shoulders. The polos on her head indicates that she is a goddess.
Most of the reverse smoothed. On a low base. Votive statuette. Three minor surface losses, otherwise intact.
Priv. coll. Dr. Frank Hieronymus (1930-2022), Basel.
