Description
North American. Gouache on paper. A colourful and well-detailed rendition of the "SS Ramon De Larrinaga" on gouache paper. The sleek black ship hugs teal green waves against a pale blue cirrus sky. Fine details of the ship include a black and yellow-striped smokestack, lifeboats, and sailing flags. As per documentation on reverse, this ship was the first vessel to travel to the terminus of the newly opened St. Lawrence Seaway in 1959. This painting may have been made in commemoration of that event. Provenance: Michael Rowan, Green River, Ontario. Marked, information on back. Sight: 16" x 25.5". Frame: 23.5" x 34.5" x 1". From the June and late David Chambers Collection.
