Description
Ontario Solid birdseye maple, basswood. A unique example of a fall front bureau/kneehole desk in square-nail construction. The upper portion has a large fall front with brass hinges that provide a generous writing surface and conceals an interior with two small drawers and various compartments for the storage of papers. The lower part of the twin pedestal form has double beading to all edges of the case and a central recessed cupboard with two slab doors opening to narrow shelves. There are eight drawers in the lower part with birdseye maple battens covering the joints at the sides of the desk and open ring pulls with diamond-shaped back plates that are probably original. Marked, "Mrs Day", in black ink/paint on upper backboard. 56.75" x 51" x 27.5". From the Vail Family/ Estate of Edward Clark Noble.
