Description
Glasgow, Scotland. Antique brown transferware platter of the Dufferin Terrace Promenade in Quebec City, circa 1880. This series was made by Britannia Pottery in Glasgow, Scotland for retail by F.T. Thomas in Quebec. Thomas was the only Canadian 19th-century merchant to commission china pieces with Canadian topographical views. The border is intertwined with symbols including beavers, roses, thistles, shamrocks and maple leaves. Marked, "F.T. Thomas Quebec", on back. 11" x 13.75" x 1". From the Marty Osler Collection.
