Description
Twenty-Three Lace Patterns, 18th-19th Century
Collection of twenty-three paper patterns for lace, some featuring pin marks from use and one with lace pieces still attached. Fifteen of the patterns are on cream paper with the design drawn in black ink. The remaining eight patterns are created with a pierced design. The largest of the patterns is approximately 13" W x 5 " L. The smallest is approximately 3" x 4". The backside of each piece (along with the front on some) feature a hand-written museum accession number.
One of the rectangular patterns on green features the hand-written words "Pot Kant (rare)", referring to Potten Kant, or Pot Lace, a form of bobbin lace. Three of these patterns feature what appears to be years, hand-written in black ink, such as "1770 A.D.", "1753-1765-1767 A.D.", or "1760-1767-1768".
