Dr. Heinrich Stinnes started collecting prints before the First World War and was known to have the "best and richest" collections in Germany. He started with collecting German prints and later transitioned to collecting modern prints from foreign artists. According to the Frtis Lugt, 'Collectors' Marks on Prints and Drawings,' online catalog, "He searched mainly for the first proofs and possessed in all about 200,000 sheets among which shone rare states of C. Pissarro, K. Kollwitz and E. Munch. In 1911 this passionate amateur acquired, from the A. W. Heymel collection, all the sheets of Toulouse-Lautrec, a rich series that included the rarest and that he completed again making it unique."
Condition
Overall good condition. Full margins with deckled edges. Very pale light staining. Handling creases scattered primarily throughout the margin edges, the largest measuring 9" horizontally along the upper margin edge and slightly affecting the image. Four small horizontal tears along the right margin edge. Remnants of white tape at the margin corners and right margin edge, and areas of pale tape staining near the margin corners, all verso. The sheet is hinged to the overmat with two pieces of white tape, on the verso of the upper margin edge.
