AN ORMOLU AND SILVERED KETTLE DRUM BAROMETER ATTRIBUTED TO J.J HICKS, 19TH CENTURY, RETAILED BY T.K AUSTIN & CO., DUBLIN the angled silvered dial and bezel within a simulated drum case, supported on x-framed ormolu stand and onyx plinth base. 21.5cm high Kettle Drum Barometers of exactly this design are known from marked examples by James Joseph Hicks (1837 - 1916) Haton Gardens, London. Hicks who was born in Rosscarbery, Co. xcork was one of the leading suppliers of barometers and thermometers in London in the last quarter of the 19th century.
