Description
George III sterling English silver large meat platter, the underside struck with maker's marks of William Holmes, London, 1770, of shaped oval form with gadroon rims engraved with arms of Fitzwilliam and motto: "Appetitus rationi pareat" [Appetite to reason]. Weight: 64.94 ozt.; 1.5" H x 20.25" W x 13.5" D. Provenance: From a N.Y. private collection; Sotheby's, New York, October 23, 2014, lot 481.
